We are excited to be a part of the new 'restaurant row' on the Carteret Street corridor. We are across the street from Wren, and just 50 feet from the intersection of Bay Street and Carteret at the bridge downtown.  The new Breakwater is almost double the size of the old one and has both a contemporary restaurant and a kitchen store section. Plus we were able to expand our menu with a greater commitment to 'locally grown'.

Exactly, we are 100% committed to getting the absolutely freshest caught local seafood and locally grown vegetables. Not only are you supporting the local economy, you are helping good people (the farmers and the fishermen) who we know personally.

This is a great chance for Gary and Beth  to finally show what they can do as cooks.  At the old Breakwater, people loved all the tapas that he and Beth created. So much so, that there was not room for them to make new dishes.  The new format will allow specials and keep the creativity going.

Our goal is to not just be a bar or a restaurant, but to help create 'community'. That's what makes us different I believe from other restaurants. Myself and our house manager Terry Sweeney try to introduce people to each other.  Especially newcomers who may not know anybody. We love that 'Cheers' experience-- a neighborhood bar where everyone 'knows your name'. We believe in creating that same sort of friendly, open, fun experience. You will never feel lonely at Breakwater. If you do, then we aren't doing our job.

We've always been known for our great food, but let's face it, the old location left a lot to be desired aesthetically speaking.  We are so excited about the new place because it has more of a 'wow' factor.  We tore out a whole second floor to expose the majestic curve of the ceiling and its beams.  The center of the dining room will have  a 25 foot tall ceiling.  But we also wanted to keep the intimacy that we had at the old restaurant, so there is a section with a normal ceiling height for those diners that might want it quieter.  We are bringing, the restaurant and bar, along with the Kitchen Store from the Firehouse all under one roof. It certainly makes it easier for us to oversee and I think people will like the accessibility.  I really can't wait to see all our customers again, I have missed them so much since we stopped doing Firehouse Fridays in July.  You know, that's really the best part of this business --the people.  We really look forward  to seeing  all our old friends again at the new location on Carteret Street in October!
